Om Elisabet Alsos Strand
Elisabet Alsos Strand utforsker papirets og grafikkens univers i form av tresnitt og kunstnerbøker. Utgangspunktet for kunstverkene hennes er det gjennomskinnelige og tilsynelatende skjøre japanske papiret, som absorberer lyset heller enn å reflektere det, slik vestlig papir gjør.
Strands bilder er sterkt påvirket av det mektige og øde landskapet i Nordland, og levekårene gjennom årstidenes dramatiske skifte fra lange mørke vinternettene til uendelige sommerdager. Et annet tema er vår påvirkning på naturen og de andre artene vi lever med.
Strand er født i Mo i Rana, like ved polarsirkelen i Norge. I løpet av barndommen fulgte hun også familien for å bo 5 år i Frankrike og Madagaskar. I dag bor hun i Trondheim og er medlem av kommunens kunstneratelierkollektiv LKV.
Strand har en MFA fra Kunst- og designhøgskolen i Bergen, og ble tildelt en doktorgrad i kunst fra Matejko Art Academy i Krakow, Polen. Strand har deltatt på en rekke utstillinger i inn- og utland og mottatt stipend, og Kunstklubbens pris for beste trykk på den nasjonale årlige høstutstillingen i Oslo i 2006.
Arbeidene hennes er presentert i offentlige og private samlinger og hun har blitt tildelt flere offentlige kunstoppdrag . Hun er initiativtaker og koordinator for flere internasjonale samarbeid og utstillinger. Strand har flere studieopphold bak seg i Japan, og underviser jevnlig i japansk tresnitt.

About Elisabet Alsos Strand
Elisabet Alsos Strand explores the universe of paper and printmaking in the form of woodblock prints and artist´s books. The starting point of her art works are the transluscent and apparently fragile Japanese paper, which takes in the light rather than reflecting it, as Western paper tend to do.
Strand’s imagery is strongly influenced by the majestic and desolate landscapes of her homeland, and the living conditions through the dramatic change of seasons, from the long dark winter nights to the never ending summer days. Another theme is our influence on nature and the other species we live with.
Strand is born in Mo i Rana, close to the Arctic Circle in Norway. During her childhood she also followed her family to live 5 years in France and Madagascar. Today she lives in Trondheim and is a member of the municipality’s artists´ studio collective LKV.
Strand holds a MFA from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design, and was awarded a PhD in Art from the Matejko Art Academy of Krakow, Poland. Strand has participated in numerous exhibitions in Norway and abroad and received grants, and the Kunstklubben Prize for best print at the National Annual Autumn Exhibition in Oslo in 2006.
Her works are presented in public and privat collections and she has been assigned several public art commissions. She is the initiator and coordinator of several international collaborations and exhibitions. Strand has studied Japanese Woodblock printmaking in Japan, and regularly teaches the technique in workshops.
